Super-Senior golfer Dennis Whitmer coasted to victory over a small but talented field Tuesday in the Par 3 tourney. Whitmer, even par through the first seven holes, bogied the final two holes allowing Mike VanZandt to creep within two shots. VanZandt three putted two of the first five holes and missed short putts for par and birdie on two others before closing with four consecutive pars to make it appear closer than it actually was. Michael Comeaux, one under par after the first 3 holes, played the final six holes in seven over par to fade to six over. David Buchanan had out of bounds trouble causing three double bogies to finish fifth. Mike Mitchell, colorful head golf pro, course superintendent, and Par 3 architect at the Ranch, was tied with VanZandt for 2d place after seven holes but played the final two holes in three over par to finish 4th. Mitchell returned to action after travelling to Dallas to seek help for his faltering game from Tiger Woods former coach Hank Haney. Saddened after their session, Haney commented “I don’t know if Mike Mitchell’s swing will ever let him be able to compete successfully against Whitmer, VanZandt and Comeaux.”
