Our very large family has been frequenting and/or living in Crystal Beach for over 40 years now, and certainly we have stories behind our house names. My grandparents owned and lived in a beach front home from 1970 until the hit of Hurricane Ike. The “Seahoose” was a strong little dwelling for Mama and Bop and the 30+ family members and countless more friends that dropped by often. It was a simple name, but family and friends alike knew exactly what you were referring to when mentioning the Seahoose. No need to specify or question the location, the time of arrival, or whether you were welcome…the answer was known, always yes, always open! Hurricane Ike may have swept the Seahoose away, but the spirit will always remain.
My parents decided to purchase and now that they are retired, live permanently in their beach home. “SeaMoon” only recently acquired it’s very appropriate and significant name. My parents threw around beach home names for years, literally, years. Just when we thought they settled on something, it would change again. Finally, we all received a picture via email about a month ago with the very permanent, etched in wood, and painted name: SeaMoon.
My sister, brother and I are all grown with distance between us and families of our own. But no matter the number of miles that separate us, we can all see the same great moon in the sky. Nearly every full moon, Mom texts us all with a little reminder, “See moon?” We all know it must be a full one. Rightfully so, our beach home is titled “SeaMoon”!
Keep the creativity and good beach names flowing!
You got a shot of our cabin, SurfShack 2, the original was SurfShack due to my love of surfing. We almost named the new cabin NODRAMA, that would make a great cabin name.
