Naming your beach house is nearly as important as naming your first born or your family pet. But your beach house – for some, it’s your escape, and for the lucky few, it’s your forever home. So how did you come up with the name for your beloved beach house? Did you simply use your family name? Did you ponder this very important decision for weeks, months, years? Who did you consult to help you name your beach house? Is there a hidden meaning? Or perhaps an inside joke?
Many beach homes that have been rebuilt or revived since Ike are named with a reference to before/after Ike. For instance, “1 More Time”, “Second Wind”, and “Second Time Around” seem to be named as a reminder that we have been hit but we stand strong again. And you gotta love the play on words for beach house names: “Ship Wheel Happen”, “Fleur De Beach”, and “Jamaica Me Happy”.
A name gives character and personality. A name is distinct and significant and memorable. Many homes will go by this name for years to come and be known only by the name, forgetting the street it is on. Tell us the significance of your beach house’s name.
Below is only a short list of names we have photographed. Is your house in the photo? If not, check back next week…we will publish more.
We named our house “Cast Net” in hopes that our beach house would be a vehicle to bring everyone together! Our sign is in your picture…Fun to see!
We named ours to reflect our reasons for owning a second home at the beach. We purchased our beach home to keep our family close as our two children grow, eventually leave home and have families of their own. We feel our beach home will provide a place for our family to gather for more meaningful periods of time than just Sunday lunch and enjoy each other and stay in touch with who we all really are. Basically we built our beach home for the love of our family of four. So we named it “Four Amore”
