What Rain?

We had a visit from the twins, or “The Littles,” as I call them. Riggs and Fisher, our youngest grands, 7 years old, with less than 3 weeks left of Summer, came to the beach for a Before-School visit. The parents were scheduled to come for the weekend, but The Littles called to ask if they could come early. Of course! PawPaw met them in Galveston at Home Depot and brought them back here to the beach.

They’re non-stop bundles of energy. Surprisingly, they entertain themselves quite well. And, talkative! Oh, my goodness. When I got home, they told me all about their Colorado vacation. Fishing, hiking, panning for gold, all sorts of exciting activities. We talked about what sports they’ll play this year when school starts, baseball for two of them, Fisher’s still on the fence. I asked if they’re looking forward to school? NO WAY! (No surprise.)

We, unanimously, decided on Big Store pizza for dinner on Thursday night and of course red Jello. PawPaw made the red Jello in anticipation of their visit. It’s an expected treat with these guys.

A kids movie, Spy Kids kept us all on the edge of our seats until it was time to hit the hay! Good movie, good message, I wasn’t looking forward to a kids movie, but I was impressed.

Friday, I had to go to work, but those boys were busy all day! To the beach where they played in the really fun washout. With all the rain, it was deep and fast flowing. They even found a beached shark. Studying his teeth was the highlight of that find!

Back home, hot tub/pool, back and forth, there’s always something to do at Grandma & PawPaw’s. We almost declined the invitation for lunch on Friday, but Jeff said, “oh, bring them!” So I met them up at Tia’s, thank goodness for coloring and crayons! The boys were captivated and devoured their lunches of course.

We expected that rest of the gang for Friday evening, Mommy, Daddy & Big Brother, Pierce (age 10). They told me they wouldn’t be hungry, so I made some shrimp dip and baked an apple pie. The Littles had hot dogs, two each! I tell you what, those boys can eat. And note to self, next time buy LOTS of pop tarts. Pop tarts are simply a snack, I’ve come to find out!

Astros later for all of us, We won, Bregman hit a home run in the last inning to win the game!

Saturday, more rain, not a problem. With Pierce, things became a little more exciting, he’s a great big brother. A trip to Latitude where Mike gave each boy a shark necklace. No trip is complete without getting a shark necklace. Lots of Olympics watching, and another trip down to the beach. Of course, the inevitable jellyfish sting. Fisher was the recipient. Grandma, rushed home and brought back the vinegar to ease the pain. Forgotten in no time! A little seining to see what else might be out there, a few little fish and an onery little crab.

The weekend ended too soon; they were on their way by about 10 Sunday morning. Nothing for me to do but Recover! Vacuum, loads of laundry, beds to strip, my stupid white floor to clean.

A Breath of Fresh Air! That’s what the doctor ordered. Love them kiddos!
