It’s finally come – The Texas Crab Festival. How many weeks/months have we been preparing for this event? I guess 9 months? Really, I could have given birth by now? Sorry, not me, but that’s how I relate to times like this. I guess it’s gone smoothly, after all, we’ve been doing this for … oh my gosh, is this our fifth year?? I have only a small part of the whole process, vendors and beer booth. Each one has pretty much honed itself to a smooth process. My vendors beg me to be accepted, except for the ones who balk at any new rules the County or our insurance company has imposed upon us. It’s okay, with a bit of explaining, they all want to be involved anyway and they all comply.
The Beer Booth is such a hoot, everyone wants to join in. It’s a Bolivar Peninsula Lions Club Event – exposure extraordinaire. Even though it involves a rigorous 2 hours of TABC training to obtain the certificate (time you’ll never get back), it is well worth it for the 4, 8, 12 hour shifts our volunteers are willing to put forth. The Beer Booth is non-stop entertainment, the volunteers scrambling over one another, “pass me a Miller Lite, pass me a DosXX, pour me a Cab or a Pinot Grigio or a Moscato.” Fun, but serious, we’re all TABC trained. We know the rules and we care about the individuals we’re serving.
I hope you’ll all come out to our 32nd Texas Crab Festival. It’s a “Family Event.” And, I’ll see you on at the Carnival – You’ll never know how great a kiss can feel when you stop at the top of the Ferris Wheel.

GO’s Sand Bucket is only one beach bum’s journal of life at the beach, probably something each of you can relate to. Please feel free to email me with your thoughts, visions and/or feelings of just exactly what the beach means to you. Email: [email protected]
