We ended up our 4th of July Celebration on the weekend after the 4th. The whole family couldn’t get together on the 4th, so we finished up with the whole shebang last weekend. The college kids couldn’t make it last weekend, “Baylor” was moving out of her college apartment to another apartment and “The Colorado Oredigger” was Barista-ing at his Starbucks job.
There was a lot of beach-going, water sliding, Mexican Training and lounging in the pool to be done. It was The Littles first time at the water slide and there were plenty of seasoned veterans to assist, no one went down alone, even if they wanted to. The oldest vet on the course was in her 44th year, followed by brother (39th) and sister (37th).
All our meals were planned, beginning with Camber’s famous lasagna on Friday night. The Feast de résistance was set for Saturday night; we christened our mega fryer, a Christmas present from many months ago. We had everything fried except for the baked beans I’m having for lunch today, snickers or Oreos.
It was actually our first meal of the season outdoors. Thank goodness mosquitoes left us alone. Thanks Michael for the Cutter treatment! All fried stuff: Catfish, shrimp, okra (Paul’s favorite), fries, corn-on-the-cob and hush puppies.
We were all, literally, greased up for a rousing 12 rounds of Mexican Train.
Believe it or not, many of us enjoyed Grandma/Nana’s rendition of Peach Crisp topped with cool whip or PawPaw’s homemade ice cream.
It’s no wonder the kids did their Mega-workout on Saturday morning: a mile run, followed by push ups, pull ups, sit ups, then another mile run. Whew, I’m tired just thinking about it!

Wish I could have been there. Fried tastes best!!! Although, beans and homemade ice cream are mighty good too.
