VanZandt is Par 3 Champ; Weisinger/Milby take scramble

High Island Senior beefcake Jentry Weisinger and senior heartthrob John Milby roared to a two shot win over the surprising team of head golf pro Mike Mitchell and barefooted golf-legend Alan Lind in the two-man scramble portion of the Bolivar Peninsula Par 3 Championship on Saturday December 22nd at the Ranch. Rambling George Flores and golf writer Mike VanZandt finished in third place with an eighteen hole total of 58, followed by Shannon O’Brien and neophyte golfer Russell Ford and Sonny Wong and Tom Berry with 59s. In the field but out of the hunt were Wes Weisinger, Jason Pettit, Michael and Aaron Comeaux, Sweet Charles Brannon and Russ Berge.

Mike VanZandt won the Inaugural Bolivar Peninsula Par 3 Championship with a brilliant course-record tying one-over par 28, defeating perennial bridesmaid Shannon O’Brien by two strokes. VanZandt had eight pars and one bogey on the Mike Mitchell designed Legends of Golf Par 3 Course. John Milby was third at 4 over par after cashing big in the scramble earlier in the day.

Special thanks to the Tiki Beach Bar and Grill for hosting the Calcutta and furnishing wonderful food for the golfers, and to Swede’s Real Estate for helping sponsor the tournament.
