Only one week after the whirlwind Texas Crab Festival – another typhoon came over us, Our Granddaughter’s Sweet 16 Birthday Party. Emma turned 16 last Friday. I remember PawPaw and I sitting in our home in Sugar Land, waiting for the phone call from Long Beach, California, to let us know that our first grand child had been born. What a treasure – she is the spitting image of her Mom, our first child.
Emma’s Mom rented a van, more like a school bus, to get all eight girls and another Mom/Helper down to the beach for a weekend-long birthday party. Two more golf carts, Down Under on Friday night, birthday cake that evening and a rousing game of Spoons and off to bed for PawPaw and me around midnight. No telling when all the girls finally tumbled off to beds and blow ups.
We were able to rouse 5 of them for the Jeeper pictures at Tiki on Saturday morning. They were off to the beach for most of the day on Saturday, then to The Water Slide, then a bonfire on the beach and hotdogs. Back home to shower off the smoke and sand, ran out of hot water, and all the girls turned in by 11pm. The Moms spent the next hour or so out on the deck reminiscing how great the weekend had gone and how the weather held out for two weekends in a row.
I’m working on my last load of laundry as I write this, all the beds will be remade when I finish this article. Gotta get ready for next weekend when our Son’s family and two more couples/friends join us for the Texas Frog Festival weekend. One of these days I’ll need to catch up on “my projects” that I’ve neglected since Crab Fest, like finish painting, power washing the deck and weeding my vegetable garden. Anybody with a spare hour or two, feel free to stop by.

GO’s Sand Bucket is only one beach bum’s journal of life at the beach, probably something each of you can relate to. Please feel free to email me with your thoughts, visions and/or feelings of just exactly what the beach means to you.
