Grandma said my life is much more interesting than hers these days, so she wanted me to write The Sand Bucket this week. We, my lanky little brother and I, have been living with Grandma and PawPaw at the beach for a few months ever since our family moved off to Israel. It’s pretty relaxing there at the beach house, we love being near Maezy, our Golden Non-Retriever cousin.
We’ve been going through a lot of testing and many visits to Brooks in San Antonio to get checked out. Our other Grands would pick us up halfway and get us to those Vet appointments. It’s all about travelling. I don’t get it, we’ve been travelling all our lives. Heck, we’ve lived in California, North Carolina and Texas. We’re not scared of a road trip.
So, last week, our Mom came back from Israel just to get us! Aunt Leigh came down to the beach to help put our huge kennels together, complete with all the Live Animal stickers, the water bowls and the pee pads taped to the inside of the kennels. Mom put pillows in each of our kennels with pillowcases that smell like Mom and Dad.
On Saturday morning, our Beach Grands and Mom drove us clear out to Bush Intercontinental, it seems like we’re going on another trip. Very strange though, this time we stopped at this huge terminal with airplanes zipping all around us. They brought our big kennels into the terminal and a lot of people looked at them and wiped them down with some sort of cloth? People walking by us would look at us and smile.
Then, our Mom coaxed us each into our own kennel. I wish we could just ride together in the same one. My brother likes to crowd with me on the same bed all the time. He’s a little timid.
They loaded us into baggage on this big plane. I hope Mom makes it on the same plane?!?
Nine hours later, they took our kennels out of the plane. I think we’re in Germany, I sure have to pee. I’m glad my brother was with me in baggage, I could smell him, hopefully, he knew I was right there with him too.
Whew, just saw Mom, she was staring out the window on the jetway at us, so glad she made the plane!
They took us to a Pet Lounge there so we could relieve ourselves and get out of our cozy kennels for a bit.
Oops, here they come again to load us up. Hope this is a shorter flight, we’ll see.
Five hours later, they unloaded our kennels in Israel. Mom was getting anxious because it took so long for them to deliver us to baggage. Grandma and Aunt Leigh, back in the US, were on pins and needles waiting to hear something from Mom.
Finally, we were let out of our kennels and Mom was right there to put our collars and leashes back on, she grabbed her other baggage and we were headed out into the waiting area, and guess what? There was Daddy. We were so happy to see him, we wiggled and licked his face.
They drove us to our new home in Tel Aviv, it’s midnight and our kids are still asleep. I can’t wait for them to wake us so we can lick their sweet faces.
It’s so wonderful to all be together again!

I am so glad your pets made their trip just fine and your family is together again!!
What memories this brought. When passengers had pups in cargo and we had multiple stops we always went down to check on their pets and give them a treat or drink. Shoot if you travel business or first class I think your pet could ride in the cabin!!!’
I’m so proud of you and Knight! Having you with us again makes us complete. Never knew how much we missed you and your silly brother. Big thanks to all the helpers back in Texas! We love you all!!
Woof! Woof! That sounds like a great adventure. I wish that I could have met you, and we could have played together. You are very brave to ride on that big bird. I think I would have been very scared, but getting to see your mom and dad was a fine reward.
Let me know about this Israel place.
Sincerely,
Emma Elissalde
