The big event

GO_0520The anticipation of planning an event is often hectic, a little scary, but very exciting. Now that the Crab Fest is over, it’s just a blur, except for the couple of times we took out to ride the ferris wheel. It’s like Thanksgiving dinner, all that preparation, putting it on the table, everyone joining in for the feast, then, 30 minutes later, it’s over – just the clean up to tackle. I have to admit, I enjoyed this year somewhat more than I did last year, our Beer Booth has become a fine-oiled machine. The folks running it, in four-hour shifts, know exactly what to do and they really do get a kick out of it! All are TABC Certified. We have the liveliest booth around (I think), and everyone wants to be a part of it. It’s non-stop action.

We had enough wine and beer to throw a little volunteer appreciation party on Sunday, gathering to pat each other on the backs. We put together some fruit trays, cheese and ham, some veggie trays and crackers all purchased locally from The Big Store, pouring proceeds back into the community. We even had a door prize. An event that big couldn’t happen without this super group of people.

If you’re new to the area, sitting around wondering how you can get involved, please consider joining us next year for our 30th Annual Texas Crab Festival.

GO’s Sand Bucket is only one beach bum’s journal of life at the beach, probably something each of you can relate to. Please feel free to email me with your thoughts, visions and/or feelings of just exactly what the beach means to you.
