Peninsula Sports Park held its annual Fall Fundraiser “Party in the Park” on Nov. 14, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank the generous auction bidders who contributed over $38,000 on items donated by our ever-supportive community, everyone who purchased tickets in excess of $7,000, and our fantastic sponsors: Stingaree, Texas Farm Bureau, Crystal Beach Golf Cart Rentals, Premier National Lending, and Bison Fence Company. It is a privilege to use The Pavilion at Festival Park as it is the perfect venue for our event. Fundraisers like this one allow PSP to provide athletic opportunities to children and families of the entire Bolivar Peninsula.
Although we had a tough year with COVID restrictions preventing most of our programs after March 2020, PSP still had bills to pay such as field maintenance, utilities, insurance, and we made some improvements to our Bolivar field with new infield clay prior to our opening day of baseball which was unfortunately cancelled at the last minute. Despite the disappointment of no games this year, PSP actually has expanded and now has more playing fields available when games can begin. With the help of Commissioner Apffel, we have signed a User Agreement with Galveston County which allows PSP to manage the South end of Gregory Park, which includes the baseball field, and space for our flag football and soccer games. Now, more than ever we are looking forward to our programs restarting to allow our kids to resume their normal lives with our sports programs.
The decision to go ahead with Party in the Park was made only three weeks prior to the event, so without the help of some very special hard-working folks and our amazing community we could not have pulled off the record breaking fundraiser. Special Thanks to: Janie Mayfield, Jamie Blackburn, Kathy Hammond, Dana McGinnis, Renee Hileman, Cathie Ropp, David Harris, Dennis Rollfing, Tom & Georgia Osten, Red Marks, Joanna/Elizabeth/Lindsey Miracle, Marsha Fredenburg, and all the volunteers who help us Saturday including our Auction team: Luke Palmer, Richard Thompson, and Moody Fredenburg. Elaine Rollfing and her crew did an outstanding job serving the delicious BBQ dinners as well. There are so many more who helped along the way and I appreciate each and every one. Being a part of this loving, caring, and supportive community is an honor.
Thank you all for your continued support as Peninsula Sports Park is continually growing and providing more opportunities for the peninsula families.
