It may start out a little bit cool in the mornings, but by 10 or 11 am, the sun is shining and the warming process begins. Time for a walk, or wait … how about morning coffee out on the deck? Now, that’s the ticket. I have a new little best friend, she came to me before Christmas. She was born on 11-12-13 (I’ll never forget her birthday). Anyway, she happens to wake me at 5 am every morning to go outside. Sometimes, she lets me sleep in until 6. Ah, Bliss! We get a lot of time outside. It’s all good, the stair climbing 50 times a day has to be good for weight management and exercise. She can’t manage stairs, so the extra 10 pounds and growing is an extra heart workout.
Last weekend, the sun beaming, I decided to tackle those Cana Lilies I planted around the birdhouse. They grew in abundance and spread like wildfire, but they never bloomed. They froze with our recent cold snap and melted all around the birdhouse. With Maezy’s leash tied around the pole, I began digging out the huge clumps of roots, digging down into the ground to remove every last morsel or those nasty things! The trash containers were so heavy, my husband had to use the dolly to get them out to the street for pickup. The hibiscus and the sea grape have lost all their leaves and the variegated ginger is crispy brown. I’ll wait until the threat of another freeze is gone, then they’re getting cut back drastically. It’s all good, I look forward to getting my hands and nails and knees dirty. C’mon Spring!!
GO’s Sand Bucket is only one beach bum’s journal of life at the beach, probably something each of you can relate to. Please feel free to email me with your thoughts, visions and/or feelings of just exactly what the beach means to you.
