The days are getting shorter – Sorry, I can’t quit thinking about Fall! I think this weekend will be our last weekend for the pool. The weather warmed up significantly since all the rain we’ve been having. And the gardening I made myself do didn’t hurt either. Quite warm in fact! On Saturday, I treated myself to a trip to Tom’s Thumb in Galveston. In search of Canna Lilies, none to be found. I was told they’re a Springtime thing. So, I got another Star Jasmine instead to plant around the power pole out in the front of the house.
This required getting down on my hands and knees to scoot on my bottom around the pole to clean out the dollar grass. I was surprised to find a surviving jasmine from earlier in the year. When I woke up this morning, my thoughts immediately went to all that nice soft dirt I had dug up, hoping the turtles wouldn’t find it. They love it when I get the soil all soft and cushy for them to lay their eggs. The skunks love it too, because then, they can go dig up the eggs. Oh, what a vicious cycle.
We’ve enjoyed our mandatory drives along the beach lately. Our dog, Maezy, sends us out there twice a day. The beach is wide and smooth! Seems the “donut” traffic has diminished. I guess it’s a whole other breed of tourists this time of year. Unfortunately, the sandcastle destroyers are still prevalent.
Speaking of sandcastles, this coming weekend is the Sandcastle Building Contest over in Galveston. It’s must-see!
Fall baseball is upon us and with 3 grandsons involved, that’s where we’re headed this week. That’s 3 grandsons locally, the other two are in Florida. We’ll see them later next month.
Get outdoors and enjoy and don’t forget to BE KIND to each other.
