By Mike VanZandt
Mike VanZandt missed an eighteen-inch putt for par on the 6th hole Thursday to give Roy Strimple a well earned skin and deny John Milby a sweep of the cash. Milby hit a 158 yard eight iron on number 9 to three feet and tapped it in for his skin, the only birdie of the day in the windy conditions. Despite his choke on number 6 and another missed short putt on #1, the low hitting VanZandt shot a 2 over par 29 to beat down John Milby by two shots and David Buchanan by 3. Shannon O’Brien was eight over par and Roy Strimple was nine over. Several golfers did not play up to their ability Thursday and because I stopped reporting scores higher than 9 over par, only their names, not their scores, will be listed. In alphabetical order they were; Michael Comeaux, Robin Giddens, Dabney Harrison, Mike Mitchell, and Paul Williams. This policy is no longer in effect because it’s more fun to write about bad golf than good golf.
Don’t forget to sign up for the Crab Fest Tournament, May 3rd, Calcutta preceding at the Tiki Bar on May 2nd. If you’ve never been to a Calcutta, come out to the Tiki Friday night, have dinner and watch the auction. They are lots of fun and you might make a wager on the outcome of a sporting event and buy a team. (04-18-2014)
