Spicing it up

Bolivar’s Cajun Culinary Showdown at Stingaree Restaurant
This past Saturday, the flavorful aroma of Cajun cuisine filled the air at the Stingaree Restaurant & Marina as Brad & Big Rich’s Cajun Chef Cookoff unfolded. The event featured three mouthwatering categories: Bloody Mary, Seafood Gumbo, and Chef’s Choice. Despite the challenges posed by the winds, four dedicated teams fired up their cookers at the crack of dawn, starting at 7:00 am. Their Cajun-style cooking skills were put to the test, creating a tantalizing culinary spectacle that left taste buds tingling.

Trophies and cash payouts awaited the culinary victors, with first, second, and third place overall winners, as well as a People’s Choice award. Sample cups were sold, allowing everyone to savor the delectable Gumbo and Bloody Mary concoctions.

The atmosphere was enriched with lively Cajun music by Bayou Sounds, setting the perfect backdrop for the culinary showdown. Visitors were even treated to the celestial spectacle of an eclipse that occurred simultaneously to the Cookoff, thanks to the solar glasses handed out by Bolivar Live.

In the end, congratulations were in order for the team from Lamar University, who clinched the first-place honors in Bloody Marys, the Cookoff, and the People’s Choice category. This achievement was a testament to their culinary prowess.

The event wouldn’t have been possible without the generosity of the sponsors, the hard work of the cookers, and the enthusiasm of the visitors. Brad & Big Rich’s Cajun Chef Cookoff on Bolivar Peninsula was indeed a sizzling success, leaving attendees craving more of that authentic Cajun flavor.
