I can’t believe I ever thought I’d be bored after retirement. Lately, I keep finding myself burning the candle at both ends. I finally got to “sleep in” until almost 7 this morning, but since Thursday, I’ve been popping out of bed with sometimes less than 30 minutes to get ready. Thank goodness for short hair, only requiring a blow dryer. And thank goodness for big sunglasses that don’t require a lot of makeup.
Here’s what I wonder, why would the Better Business Bureau have a get together at 7:30am? In my mind, I kept thinking it would begin at 8:30 (an almost reasonable hour), so when my husband woke me at 7, telling me my clock was 15 minutes too slow, I really had to kick it in gear.
The creme d’la creme, was Thursday night. Pierce’s parents got tickets to the Astros’ game against Kansas City and we got to stay with our 18 month old grandson. What a sweet boy, what a perfect child. Eats all his dinner, never fusses, loves his bath, snuggles before going to bed, loves the Astros, just perfect like our three. We were so comfortable, it was like deja vu, we were tempted to just leave him with us, hating to “put him away.”
We never had “bed time” back when ours were little. After dinner, I would clean the kitchen and Daddy would take all three for a bath, then we’d meet back out in the living room in front of the TV. Pillows and blankies on the floor in front of the TV and we’d all just relax and most of us would fall asleep. When it was time for bed, we’d carry the little ones and walk the big ones to bed. Easy Peasy.
Deplorable, you may say! Our own children even think it’s deplorable, they think it was probably some “hippy” thing, but look at them! Did they turn out so bad?? Guess what you Renegades, we’d do it the same way all over again. So There!

GO’s Sand Bucket is only one beach bum’s journal of life at the beach, probably something each of you can relate to. Please feel free to email me with your thoughts, visions and/or feelings of just exactly what the beach means to you.
