This is not what we bargained for by living in South Texas, it’s not supposed to get this cold. Waking at 5 am, the norm with our new Golden Retriever, Maezy, it was time to go outside. Well…I wasn’t the one to take her down. Obviously, the deck and the stairs were covered in ice. The temperature had dropped below freezing. She didn’t care, she went slip sliding across the deck and down the stairs, nothing was going to stop her. You gotta go, you gotta go!
My husband managed to hose down the stairs, but they froze again quickly. Extremely treacherous, we managed to get through the day. Friday morning, same thing, the weather man promised a warm up. Reading my friends tips on FaceBook – Kitty Litter was the trick! Off to The Big Store we go to pick the cheapest bag we could find (we don’t have cats), $2.05, what a bargain! After littering the stairs, I felt like a million bucks! Kitty Litter, what an amazing, secure revelation!
Our poor Mexican Palm Trees were absolutely drooping with ice and the remaining Queen Palm out front, dripping with the freeze. We lost her partner 3 years ago with the last freeze. When the weather began to warm and the ice fell off the palms, they perked right up, what amazing resilient foliage for us to have around here.
One more freeze, let’s hope it’s going to be the last.
Stay warm and stock up on some Kitty Litter!
GO’s Sand Bucket is only one beach bum’s journal of life at the beach, probably something each of you can relate to. Please feel free to email me with your thoughts, visions and/or feelings of just exactly what the beach means to you.
