Mr. Waterslide himself, Bobby Mistrot, is the proud owner of Crystal Beach’s funnest attraction east of Galveston, the Fun Spot Waterslide! Bobby is so busy, it took us over a week to get to spend some time with him to talk about his water slide. Located in the heart of Crystal Beach, you can’t miss the brightly colored mats, hoards of kids, young and old, hurrying up to the top of the slide, positioning themselves for the coolest ride down to the 15,000 gallon bottom pool of crystal clear water.
Who in Crystal Beach hasn’t taken the plung? Our kids and grandkids lovingly call it the “old fashioned water slide.” For 30 years, after a long hot day at the beach, or a long weekend, we always made time to visit the water slide. It was a necessary event.
Bobby, a 30 year employee of AT&T, bought the water slide in 2007. It was a wreck! Hurricane Ike blew havoc on the property, sending a tornado which knocked out 90 feet of the slide. With Bobby’s loving care, the water slide is back in business 7 days a week, open 11:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
Fun Spot employs 3 lifeguards, two at the bottom and one at the top to control the 200 people who flock there every day. The pool has 3 filters to keep the water clean and clear, and the water is tested every 2 hours and shocked every night.
For a mere $10 per hour, a “slider” is issued a wrist band color-coded to the particular hour they arrive. And, if you want to slip and slide the whole summer, season passes are available for $85.
