The much reported and anticipated arctic storm visited Bolivar on Sunday night. As everyone drifted to sleep, white blanketed the peninsula. Sleet and snow fell for hours to cover the land and the beach. Waking up on Monday morning to see the brightness of the white brought a smile to many faces, adults and children alike. The snow lay on the sand all the way to the water’s edge, with the calm Gulf lapping at the shore. Unfortunately the dreaded loss of power left everyone in the cold, unless you have a back-up generator to save the day. The Big Store opened as usual to serve and support the community, thanks to their huge generator. The long lines at the gas pumps reminded us that we never seem to be completely prepared.
Snowmen formed around the peninsula mark the occasion. Snow on the beach doesn’t happen very often. The last snow falls were 2017, 2004, and all the way back to 1973. This snow fall of 2021 brings a new brightness to our year. Let it Snow!
