From the Texas Coast Bolivar Peninsula to the California Coast Monterey Peninsula. We haven’t been out to California for quite a while, we moved away over 25 years ago. Visiting 3 of the Grands made this a very special trip. We decided to rent a mini van when we got to the airport, in anticipation of our family outing to San Francisco. Three car seats, four adults crammed into a mini van, we left at 7am for the almost 2 hour drive. The drive there was interesting, Daddy doled out snacks, we played road games Mommy had printed, sang songs and chatted the entire way there.
First stop – Golden Gate Bridge. Well, actually, we didn’t stop because we couldn’t figure how to get off until we had crossed to the other side. But get off we did at Vista Point. Next stop, to the Golden Gate Park to ride the carousel. Off to Pier 39, visited the stinky sea lions and dined overlooking the Pacific Ocean and Alcatraz. We walked to Ghirardelli Square and caught a trolly car back to the Pier parking lot. We found the mini van and headed to China Town for sushi. Oh my goodness, that was a day we should have done in two, so exhausted were the seven of us.
What I won’t forget was our outing today, down to Lover’s Point in Monterey, walking in the coarse sand and wading in the coldest surf possible! I even found some sea glass.

GO’s Sand Bucket is only one beach bum’s journal of life at the beach, probably something each of you can relate to. Please feel free to email me with your thoughts, visions and/or feelings of just exactly what the beach means to you.
