Rescue at Rollover Pass

It only takes a split second from a bad decision for disaster to envelope your life, as learned by Steve Dunn of Cleveland, TX. “I was wading out into the surf to fish for speckled trout,” stated Steve Dunn, explaining that the specks were biting pretty good at the Pass and he wanted to get in on the action. “But as I neared the pilings the waves and current began to create a vortex of danger as huge swells merged with the strong current of the outgoing tide. It was almost like a whirlpool, informed Steve, and its strong pull began to draw him into the whirling wash!”

“I almost panicked, Steve advised, but with all my might and energy I was finally able to break away from its strong pull to slowly make my way to the jetty rocks. My energy was pretty well sapped by this time,” Steve informed, “and all I could do was grab onto the rock and hold on for dear life!”

Dunn began yelling for help, when an angler who was fishing nearby heard his desperate pleas and immediately ran to assist. The unknown Samaritan climbed over the wall and walked the slippery rocks down to a drowning Steve Dunn. Helping the exhausted angler out of the water and up on the rocks, he then assisted the wader to stand up and walk to the wall for safety. Steve was able to recover, but by the time Steve was able to catch his breath and strength back the Samaritan was gone. “I really would like to THANK that man, Steve advised, for he really did save my life!!”
