The Port Bolivar Cemetery and the residents of Port Bolivar were the big winners March 22 at the Ranch. Donations from over one hundred hole sponsors and a wildly successful Calcutta/auction at the Down Under the night before the tourney gave the 72 golfers entered lots of money to vie for in the 18 hole scramble. Jeremy Porter’s team, benefiting from a last minute substitution, shot a nifty 64 to edge Robby VanZandt’s team by a single shot. Five teams tied for third place at 67. Margo Johnson won the closest to the hole prize on the third hole with a nifty wedge to 18 inches from 75 yards out.
The Crystal Beach Community Golf Course, aka The Ranch at Crystal Beach, is a great asset to our community. Local golfers and businesses step up several times a year to pitch in and help fund much needed projects benefiting our community. Special thanks goes to the Port Bolivar VFD for their assistance in running the event. Everyone pitched in and raised over sixteen thousand dollars for the cemetery association. Thanks to everyone who helped in any way, but especially to Mike Comeaux, Mike Mitchell, Strayhorn Dirt Works, and Robin Giddens.
Lets hope we will get this kind of support for the Texas Crab Festival Scholarship golf tournament to be held May 3. All procedes go to the scholarship account.
