After a long hiatus, the Pearl Beach Charity BBQ Cookoff returned to Crystal Beach last weekend. Moving from the Pearl Beach subdivision to Festival Park, the cookoff once again brought the community together while raising funds for charity. Richard and Lana Thompson, the original organizers of the event that was last held in 2016, teamed up with the Eagles to restart the fun. Festivities began on Friday night with a huge crawfish boil and live music by the Crossroads. Early Saturday morning under sunny skies and cool temperatures, the 16 cook teams competed with ribs and brisket. Pits were fired and the savory smell of meaty smoke filled the air. BBQ lunches were served to the hungry supporters.
Meanwhile, a wide array of items for the silent and live auctions were on display. Judging for ribs took place at 1:30pm and brisket was at 3pm. First, Second, and Third places were awarded with trophies and bragging rights, as well as a trophy for the BBQ Team Spirit Award. Many Congratulations to the Cookoff Winners! And a very special Thank You to the volunteers, visitors, and supporters who have made it possible to restart this charitable event. The Eagles look forward to hosting this popular event in the years to come.
Fantastic event! Thank you tons, The Coles
