(May-15-2012) No struggle today to figure out what to write about – Here’s to my precious Granddaughter, Emma Carnell, on her 13th Birthday. When she was a toddler, it was easiest to describe Emma as the “spittin’ image of her mom.” And yes, it was like deja vu, like seeing my first born child all over again, 20+ years later. We began to create a list of Emma-isms. It’s a list of all the silly words or sayings she would come up with, such as: “I gotfor,” or one time, I was yelling at my dog for chasing a cat and Emma said to me, very matter of factly, “Grandma, that’s what dogs do.” When she was probably two, I tried to reason with her, explaining, “Emma, that’s not necessary.” She looked at me so sincerely and, trying to reason with me, stated, “Yes, necessary.” Oh my goodness, this just sent everyone into hysterics and we say it all the time now.
Our teenage Emma cannot be compared to anyone anymore, not even her Mama. She is her own person, such an individual, such a complete person, head on straight and moving forward in her own footsteps. She is very passionate about her family and her love of sports. I feel like she will accomplish anything she sets her mind to.
I remember the day you were born Emma. PawPaw and I sitting in the living room in Sugar Land, waiting for the phone call from Long Beach.
Wishing you a wonderful birthday, my sweet Granddaughter! Love, Grandma.
GO’s Sand Bucket is only one beach bum’s journal of life at the beach, probably something each of you can relate to. Please feel free to email me with your thoughts, visions and/or feelings of just exactly what the beach means to you.
