It was a Labor of Love – Rather than sit around their own fireplaces, a group of retired bricklayers got together to begin building a gas-powered fire pit at the Lone Survivor Retreat Facility. It was one of the coldest days we’ve had this year, but the eight of them mixed concrete, pushed around wheel barrows, placed bricks and built the first of two fire pits for the veterans to enjoy. Another wood burning fire pit is their next project. It’s a well known fact that the veterans are much more comfortable in these informal settings.
All the bricklayers belonged to Local 13 Texas BAC, Bubba Hughes was the instigator, 82 years young. Joining Bubba were James Posey,CR Hughes III, Bobby Haney, TC Fennel, Tom Pollard, Terry Bartuska and Mark Taylor.
Materials were donated by Posey Brick Works Inc., Beaumont Brick, Acme Brick and JT Thorpe.
