La Breithe Sona Duit is Happy Birthday in Celtic Irish. Even though they did not come from Ireland, it is hard to be more Irish than Tom (Sandy) Pollard and lovely wife Ellie Pollard. Twas certainly the “Luck of the Irish” to have them wind up in Crystal Beach’s Holiday Beach subdivision. Their house, painted green, welcomes all neighbors and guests. It was only fitting that it served as the party destination for Tom Pollard’s 80th birthday.
Family, including son Angus and daughter Brigid, friends of all ages and even puppies gathered on Saturday, November 9, 2024 to celebrate this auspicious event. Succulent barbecue and copious beverages were happily consumed. Uncle Bow and Doug Band delighted all with their melodious choices. Quite a few guests just had to get up and dance to well played musical numbers. That band even handled an Irish tune to which Tom exuberantly added his voice. If guests did not dance, they tunefully sang along to any piece they knew.
Then came the time for Tom to open his gifts. What an eclectic variety of presents – Each one unique. An interesting offering came from Tom’s Montana friend who killed a rattlesnake, proceeded to skin and cure it and produce a handsome wallet. Tom was most pleased with each bestowal. Of course there was birthday cake. Such a luscious carrot cake made by daughter-in-law Farrell did not last very long. Another round of rapacious, melodic Happy Birthday ensued.
Tom’s birthday party demonstrated the love and high regard felt for him by so many. Tribute paid to a man who has lived his life with love, honor and care for others. No matter what language, every person there wished him a most LA BREITHE SONA DUIT, TOM (SANDY) POLLARD.
