The Humana Communities Benefit program in Houston has been awarding one-time $100,000 signature grants to Houston-area nonprofits focused on improving the health and well-being of local communities since 2004.
Houston Area Women’s Center, the 2011 Grant Recipient, Makes Vast Improvements to Help Domestic Violence Victims with Humana Funding. The Houston Area Women’s Center, a nonprofit organization that supports victims of domestic and sexual violence by providing free shelter, counseling and advocacy services, recently opened its new state-of-the-art call center to more effectively interact with local underserved women. Funding for the call center was provided through a one-time, $100,000 grant that the center received from the Humana Communities Benefit program in Houston in September 2011.
Now, another nonprofit organization in the Greater Houston area has that same opportunity to positively impact the health and wellness of Houston-area residents. For its eighth consecutive year, Humana (NYSE: HUM) has opened the call for entries in search of the 2012 recipient of the $100,000 grant and is seeking Greater Houston charities to apply.
