I’m pleased to say “I’m Done!” I guess it took the better
part of a week. My husband carried our new tree, Sections A, B, C, and D into the house. Last Christmas, I finally gave our old tree to Second Going. I’d had it since 2005, it was missing lights, still beautiful, but we couldn’t find replacement bulbs. I searched for another Cornelius Nursery, the one on Dairy Ashford had closed down. That’s where I went every Christmas while I was still at Conoco/Phillips, it was right across the street from work. I found a Cornelius in Katy, it wasn’t a bad drive. There was the perfect tree just waiting for me.
What I didn’t realize was that every NEW branch had to be fluffed out. I touched every branch lovingly to spread the limbs of every branch. It’s a 9 foot tree! That’s as far as I got until this weekend, I put everything out of my mind except for getting that tree decorated.
Early Friday, after Thanksgiving, some of Santa’s Elves joined me up at Festival Park, where we decorated the stage and the entrance to the Christmas Festival. I spent some time And Money up there on Saturday. What a wonderful turn out! The weather wasn’t perfect, rainy and cold, but People just want to get out of the house. Too cold for me though, so I sneaked out to get home to my own decorating. I changed up some things this year. Instead of garland around my loft, I just strung lights, and of course, hung Christmas stockings from the railing.
I found a new space for the tree. I used to put it smack dab in the center of the room between two pilings. Now, it’s off to the side by the stairs going up to the loft. I’m really liking it! There’s not much I don’t like about Christmas, it’s my favorite holiday.
Sunday morning, no rain, the sun came out, it actually warmed up! I salvaged whatever indoor/outdoor lights I still had to string on the outside railing of the deck. I managed to get most of the way around, still need probably 3-4 more strands.
Back indoors to attempt to get this tree decorated. I cranked up the Hallmark station, happy I did, I got to watch my favorite A Christmas Waltz, which I stayed up late the night before to watch.
I’m happy to say “it’s all done.” All the tubs have been put away. Now, I need to move on to baking. I’ve already had more than one request for my (Pillsbury) Jam Strip Cheesers from the Grands, of course.
Oh, by the way, I hope you had a fantastic Thanksgiving!
