Can’t find “my memories,” but the girls had some really old ones. I can’t remember when we first went, it was before we got Melissa and Barbara hooked. Maybe 15 years ago … Anyway, we went on a Saturday this year. It’s usually a Sunday, a bit calmer and some of the merchants have sales. We feel like old pros now, especially with the tailgating portion of our venture. We think, I mean we know we were the first. We get there a bit early and have our snacks and beverages all planned out. Bring the lawn chairs and pour the first Mimosa. Drinks flowing freely back then, not so much these days. Shopping, we, rather I, realize the difficulty mixing the two. Besides, our girls ordered “double somethings” over halfway through the afternoon – 2 for $75. That kind of cuts into your purchasing power, if you know what I mean …
Oh, it’s a hoot! You can check in your packages at a booth inside the event for $8 or, if you have two able-bodied daughters, every time we get an armload, they’ll run out to put our purchases in the car. Oh, my goodness, you should have seen that car when we decided we’d had enough. Barbara and I had to move stuff out of the backseat, so we’d have a place to sit on the way home. I volunteered to put Barbara on top of the car for the ride home. Her daughter didn’t think that was a good idea.
I got home around 7, I had planned to do some shopping at Sam’s on my way but realized I didn’t have my Sam’s card on me. Good thing, I was exhausted and had already shed my shoes.
My husband woke me first thing on Sunday to go into Galveston for Mass. Happy we went, as always.
As you know, this is my favorite time of the year and so happy we kept up the tradition. That’s what family and friends are all about. We may not see each other all the time, but we fall right back into the comradery. Although, don’t mention it, but I don’t think Barbara and I will be invited back to the Kemah Wine Tasting event. We had TOO much fun last year!
