Galveston Community College (GCC) Chorale celebrated its 50th anniversary with their 2022 Spring Concert. The Chorale may be 50 years old, but its members stay young at heart. Talented director Mike Gilbert suggested that singers might want to dress in costumes for their Halloween night rehearsal. Sopranos, Altos, Tenors and Bass were represented by witches, military fighters, Astro fans, birds, and even The Pope! These songsters showcased a diverse group, but so is the entire Chorale.
Galveston garners many well deserved accolades. GCC and its Chorale certainly play a part in the island’s reputation. Mike has served as director since 2012. He is an Adjunct Instructor of Music, received his Master’s degree in music from the University of Houston in 1979 and also was Galveston ISD Choral Director. Acclaimed concert organist Ron Wyatt accompanies the choir on piano and organ. Ron has performed in concerts throughout the United States and Europe. He is currently Director of Music for Trinity Episcopal Church. (Ron is also quite witty.) These men have high standards for GCC Chorale and help vocalists be successful by encouragement and praise.
The Group have several upcoming events planned for the Christmas Season. Moody Methodist Church (UMC) will hold their annual Christmas Market on November 19. The Chorale will be singing portions of their Christmas Concert music at 9:30 AM in the foyer. You can sing along to some familiar carols. Members lead Christmas carols in front of the Galvez Hotel on November 25. GCC Christmas Concert is December 12, 7:00 PM in Moody UMC Sanctuary. Their repertoire includes sacred and secular themes. Again, you are encouraged to join in on some offerings including the finale’s “Hallelujah Chorus”.
GCC Chorale is open to all who love music, love to sing, and are willing to spend time and effort on creating an outstanding musical production. Not only can you be a part of such a worthwhile venture, you can also have fun. Along those lines, GALVESTON COMMUNITY COLLEGE CHORALE hopes that you enjoyed a safe and HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
