Thanks to all who wished me a Happy Birthday Sunday! I think every year I get more excited. Maybe that’s because I’m so surprised and grateful to have made it another year. My birthday falls on a holiday (thank goodness it’s not on Christmas), but I remember usually getting the day off work, just because it was my birthday, and when I was younger, school never started until after my birthday. I know, I make it sound like it’s “all about me,” but I do enjoy all the recognition.
Anyway, this year’s celebration was very special because I had my family surprise me a day earlier than expected, what a treat! We had some wonderful fun-packed days on the beach, then played games until the wee hours of the morning. Sunday evening’s cookout was a big hoopla downstairs with friends and family, I think we had over 30 people, with kids playing catch or washers out in the yard, drinks flowing, crabs and corn on the cob boiling in a spicy concoction, chicken and beef fajitas, tortillas, chips and salsa, courtesy of La Playita. I don’t think anyone went hungry.
To top off the event, the cutest bunch of teenagers showed up to serenade us. Yep, we were Hobo’d by the High Island High School Cardinals, led by The One and Only Banjo-strummin’ Cody VanZandt and his Group of Merry Songsters. They began by singing “Happy Birthday” to me, then moved on to “Margaritaville” and “Trailer for Sale or Rent” and “Pontoon.” We sent them on to two more houses in the neighborhood when they were done with us. We’ve been “Flocked” and “Hobo’d” now.
For a good time, I recommend both!
