The First Annual Friends and Family Rancho Carribe Golf Tournament was in full swing on Saturday. The weather was beautiful with a slight breeze as 36 players teed off for the morning scramble tournament. Sponsored by the Rancho Carribe Property Owners Association, the tournament raised over $18,800 for the Crystal Beach Community Golf Course. “This is an outstanding event,” said Course Superintendent Mike Mitchell, “and it allows us to continue to offer a quality golfing experience for all residents and visitors to Bolivar.” A big thanks to Terri and Bill Varner, and Brenda Gorman who spent countless hours putting the tournament together and lining up the more than 40 hole sponsors; and the Rancho Carribe Board of Directors (members present were Gay Richardson and Bill Varner).
Friday night’s calcutta kicked off the event with lively bidding action to pick the winning team. In addition, several donated items were auctioned. Saturday morning, the shotgun start began precisely at 9 with blue skies and not a hint of rain. Chef Todd BBQ’d some excellent boudin, sausage and brisket to fuel the players, sponsors, and supporters, and the beverage cart made the rounds to all the players.
Dabney Harrison guided his team to the win with a fine 7-under par. Gay Richardson’s team bested John Milby’s team in the 2nd place playoff when Larry Johnson’s outstanding 100 yard shot stuck 3 feet from the pin. All-in-all this was an outstanding event. Looking forward to the next one!
