Generous, Generator Friends

By Linda Elissalde
We thought about fixing our small generator. We started work on it, but the weather was really hot. Then along came Beryl. Hurricane Beryl might come into Mexico. Then she seemed to move over to Texas. Our dear Huntsville friends Byron and Karen Kelly sent messages letting us know that our room was ready if we wanted to head north. They have always been our port in any storm. We vacillated back and forth. The final decision was up to me. I can take cold, but I cannot live without air conditioning. The Kellys graciously sheltered us once again. They have a generator.

The Kelly home is a delightful residence. Karen cooked great meals, and most of all, their Labs Pink and Lady Gaga welcomed our Labradoodle Emma. We had such a “cool” time with them. There is a Bark Park near their house to which we took the girls everyday.

Food, fun, and frivolity abounded. However, we did need to come home and check on our house. We headed back, checked out that there was not too much damaged and checked into George Strong’s house. He has a generator.

So much gratitude is owned to so many folk. We are grateful to the Kellys and George Strong. George is grateful to Chris Gatlin for making sure that he had enough propane. Rita and Charles Moseley expressed gratitude to Raul Vargas and Paulette Layfield for the loan of a generator. We also thank Raquel Silverberg who stayed at a friend’s house that had a generator for keeping us up to date on the status of events in Crystal Beach. We are very grateful to Entergy for their prompt help in getting the Bolivar Peninsula up and running as quickly as possible. Thank you, RTA ,for keeping us up to date on your efforts to connect.

No hurricane is ever welcomed. However, adversity often brings out the best in folk. We are thrilled to say, “Thank you to our GENEROUS, GENERATOR FRIENDS.”

PS: Our generator is first on the list of repairs.
