We go for months on end without anybody else but me and PawPaw and Maezy in this big ol’ house. Well, Spring Break has come and gone! But with it, came our oldest Grandson from Colorado School of Mines with five of his closest friends. I got so excited to have all these young’uns in the house with us. I went to work and made ham and cheese sliders for their first night with us. I made spaghetti sauce, probably a gallon of it, and froze it for the next night.
The sliders were a success. In fact, the next morning, one of the more adventurous young men searched refrigerators until he found the leftovers for breakfast. I guess I made about 36, a tray and a half of them. Anyway, they were devoured by end of day the next day.
The weather cleared enough for them to spend the whole day on Tuesday out on the beach. Several of them got very toasty.
Our son-in-law arrived on Monday as well from Israel. He had the two labs with him, you may have read Texas’ story in my Sand Bucket last week. Uncle Michael had a good time with all the “youngsters,” playing out on the beach with a cooler full of beverages.
That night, we had the spaghetti, had to wake Dawson up out of his stupor to grab a bite to eat. It’s all good! Then, they went with Uncle Michael to catch the bar scene, but, alas, there was no “bar scene.” This Quaint Little Fishing Town, With A Drinking Problem was dead! No Ships Wheel and the Gulf Range only had 3 locals sitting around. Not much partying going on.
Wednesday, after more play on the beach (the weather slightly cooler), the kids left, on their way to the rest of their journey to Lake Livingston, then to Oklahoma City, then back home to Golden, Colorado.
Thursday, Michael’s Mom and Dad rode on into town. That’s Mike & Linda, Linda – otherwise known as Bookend. She brought the yummiest lasagna, I had the garlic bread and Caesar salad. We played ONE game of Mexican Train the whole time they were here with us, three nights. Lots of fun, lots of time on the beach, good people.
Saturday, we went into Galveston, The Strand, to shop, and later to have a late lunch at Katie’s. I guess it wasn’t a late enough lunch because at about 5pm, Michael asked what’s for dinner. I DID anticipate this, so I had taken out the chili I had prepared for the kiddos if they stayed that long. That, and leftover lasagna, and we were set for the evening.
Oh, but did I tell you about the special surprise our friend Elaine made? Yep, one of her Italian Cream Cakes. She said “not too fancy,” are you kidding me? We ate on that delicious specialty the entire time our family was here. This is one of the cakes she makes especially for the BayVue Methodist Cake Sales. Silly me, I asked her to save me one, that I’d be up there at the bake sale bright and early, I had heard they go quick. Little did I know that they were pre-sold for $100 each. OMG!
Our son-in-law and his folks had a 3:50am departure from our house on Sunday to catch the 4:20 ferry for the airport. Mike & Linda drove Michael to Hobby for his 8am flight to Tampa. That’s the next “stop” after Israel for our lovely family. I can’t wait to have them State Side again!
