Only four shots separated the field Thursday afternoon as Shannon O’Brien edged Mike Comeaux and Mike VanZandt for first place. The water treading flounder nemesis Dewey Jones tied Dennis Whitmer and greens keeper Mike Mitchell at 7 over par. Sweet Charlie Brannon and Assistant Golf Pro Russ Berge ended up four shots back. O’Brien’s unusual round consisted on two birdies, one par, five bogies, and one double-bogie. Whitmer double-bogied and Comeaux bogied the last hole to make it easy on O’Brien. Sweet Charles Brannon had a weird nine, even for Charlie, with three threes, three fours, and three fives on his card.
