The peninsula couldn’t get much hotter this past weekend as the 21st Annual Port Bolivar Volunteer Fire Department BBQ Cookoff was underway. Fajitas were fired up on Friday night as the 28 teams began their competition. A couple of thunderstorms passed through on Saturday morning while the teams prepared their beans, chicken, ribs, and brisket. But the rains didn’t douse the pits. The spirits of the BBQ masters were heated up and the judges were anticipating the goodness.
As the judges tasted all the submissions, the silent auction was taking place. Supporters purchased plates of BBQ as they prepared to spend some money. The live auction began at 6pm. Many exciting items were up for grabs, highlighted by a ‘One of a Kind’ Bulls On Bolivar belt buckle. Caden Strimple outbid everyone at $2200 to take home this prize. Meanwhile, BBQ winners were announced throughout the evening.
Congratulations to all the teams and Thank You for supporting the PBVFD.
