I love exciting things. I also love being with my dear friends and I thoroughly enjoy meeting new people. We all love to eat and who doesn’t want to go home with a nice door prize – free of charge? We can do all of the above on Sunday afternoon, September 15th, at Fort Travis, beginning at 2:00 PM, and all are invited. Someone wrote and said this week, “Brenda, I no longer own my property on the Peninsula. Can I still come to the event?” Of course! We welcome everyone. Some are driving from some distance to be with us on the 15th of September. Others have changed some plans around to be there.
There are two ways to eat, and we are trying to make it easy on everyone, and be a help to one of the Peninsula’s greatest organizations. You can either cook or buy food to bring and share (think old fashioned church home coming with dinner on the grounds ((although we will have tables)) and tasting some super good food that our folks can make). Or, if you are coming from some distance or simply do not want to cook, you can buy BBQ from Malcom Comeaux and his team of hot shot cooks at the Port Bolivar Fire Department who have graciously agreed to set up tables and sell BBQ beef sandwiches, sausage, chips, cold drinks, and the like. All money made goes to the fire department to aid in their work.
We also have some of the Peninsula’s most fun-loving folks preparing some entertainment for us. This crew will come up with a skit and costumes and antics that will make the most dour among us laugh. You won’t want to miss this!
And, we have great door prizes. Cindy Srader will have a crew on hand to greet you and your guests and get you registered for the door prizes. Kay Chapman Rhodes, Jamie Greer, and others will help you get to the area. Deborah Reed and her crew will help you arrange your food and oversee the serving tables. Carlis Cole, Kathie Poulter, and Mavis Huntsinger will handle the door prizes. Note to those who said they would be providing prizes. Please confirm with one of the three ladies exactly what you are giving and please be certain to tape a card with your name, company name (if there is one), address, and telephone number on the item before placing it on the door prize table. That way, we can properly acknowledge your contribution and see that you get the advertising you do richly deserve.
Come one, come all. This event has been planned on the requests of many of those that attended our first Meet and Greet in Gregory Park shortly after Ike hit. At that event, we went on to plan the Thanksgiving Dinner at Coconuts, and from there, we went to Austin to protest unfair practices by TWIA. Friendships were born and nurtured since that time and we simply want to be together. No sales pitches, no business, and no politics. Hope to see you there on Sunday afternoon, September 15th.
