Monday morning, we ate breakfast at Jose’s Cantina – Downtown Crystal Beach! They open at 6am for goodness sakes. Well, I won’t be tearing the doors down at 6am, but a lot of you fisher-people may be. What a wonderful sight – a “breakfast place!” As a matter of fact, I went there this morning, arriving closer to 8am, but “the faces I saw!” It’s almost like going to the Post Office at a certain time, or The Big Store, just about whenever … I mean, if you haven’t seen “so & so” for awhile, just go to these “hang outs” just to catch up with the Locals.
Speaking of Locals, I heard from a very responsible human being that the ferries were “hold up” because someone had jumped off out there in the Bay and ALL traffic was in limbo until he was found. Then, I got a call from a very reliable correspondent this morning about a sea turtle who had laid her eggs around Barrel 23 and they were awaiting Galveston to “come over” to collect the precious little ones to take them back for incubation. There again, waiting for ferry traffic to resume.
I think it was around 10am when Galveston was finally able to come over to rescue the baby turtles/eggs. Just between you and me, I can’t figure out why the Mama Turtle lays her eggs and then leaves the little darlings up on the beach? No wonder they’re endangered?? Maybe Winnie needs to further inform me why this happens.
As usual, I’ve meandered around just about everything going on in “our town.” Speaking of, just wait until you see those barrels the kids have painted, it’s gotta make you proud. Hey, we’ll see you soon around town at all these local establishments – Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Happy Hour – your name it!
By the way, I have my name on a table on the deck at Hardheads – Opening Soon!

GO’s Sand Bucket is only one beach bum’s journal of life at the beach, probably something each of you can relate to. Please feel free to email me with your thoughts, visions and/or feelings of just exactly what the beach means to you.
