Monday, May 27, 2013- Rollover Pass on Bolivar, TX.
The quiet of the morning was fractured by several people screaming for help. Reynaldo Raymundo of Conroe, who was fishing on the jetty side of Rollover Pass, slipped on some rocks and fell into the rough surf of the Gulf. He couldn’t swim and was struggling to keep his head above the water. His friends and relatives gathered on the rocks and began screaming for help.
Visiting angler Glenn Bailey of Houston heard the cry’s for help and, leaving his wife and family on the wall, ran to the jetty and immediatley jumped in to swim out to help Reynaldo. The surf was very rough and huge swells kept battering both of them.
After swimming against the strong current Bailey finally reached Reynaldo and began edging him towards the rocks. But the rocks were too slippery so Bailey swam around them to guide Reynaldo towards the shore. Someone in the crowd had a rope and tossed it out to Reynaldo to pull him in. BUT Bailey began to tire from the force of the waves and couldn’t reach the rope. Several tries were attempted before Glenn was able to grab the rope to be pulled out. A very exhausted Glenn Bailey was finally pulled from the surf by rescuers.
“I almost drowned when I was 4yrs old, stated Glenn when being interviewed, and from that experience I learned to swim. And upon growing up to adulthood, Glenn Bailey informed, I spent a time teaching kids from our local school areas to swim.”
Asked why he leaped into the roiling surf? Glenn Bailey simply said, “WELL, I just couldn’t stand there and watch the man drown!
A true Hero was met here at Rollover Pass today. His name is Glenn Bailey and he’s from Houston TX.
Thank You Glenn Bailey!
What a hero! Bless his brave heart! I was recently rescued from the surf by two guys and a lady(Probably Father, Mother and son). I don’t even know who they are. I was shaken up and sick from swallowing salty water. The hotel wouldn’t allow me to thank them personally. You know who you are. If you are the kind family that vacationed in Naples last week and pulled a woman out of the deep wave when her son swam to the shore and asked for help, please accept my gratitude from the bottom of my heart. I was stuck in the swell that forms after the breaking surf. You guys came and pulled me to safety within 10 minutes.
Well done, Glenn. You really are a hero.
Awesome! A true hero!!! You are a great man! Thanks for doing such a selfless thing!!
