(May-1-2012) Has it really been 8 months since I would leave the beach house on a Monday morning to make the 5:30 ferry to get to work? We had promised to make our niece’s Ring Ceremony at St. Agnes Academy in Houston, so we could see her get her Senior ring. This meant early to bed, early to rise. Unfortunately, we didn’t allow enough time to stop at Dannay’s for breakfast – dang it, a perfect excuse to enjoy an apple fritter! As we neared the ferry landing, there’s always the anxiety: I hope the ferry hasn’t left already … ah, the memories came flooding back. Driving on the Gulf Freeway was tedious. Everyone, by then, was on their way into Houston to go to work, bumper to bumper at Bay Area. Speaking of driving on the freeway, it doesn’t take long to get out of the “hang of it” when driving in traffic again. The ceremony was beautiful and we wouldn’t have missed it for the world, but as we were leaving, we forgot all the other “big city” errands we had intended to make. We hightailed it back home just as quickly as possible!
GO’s Sand Bucket is only one beach bum’s journal of life at the beach, probably something each of you can relate to. Please feel free to email me with your thoughts, visions and/or feelings of just exactly what the beach means to you.
