Crystal Beach

We spent this past weekend in Crystal Beach and have no plans to return anytime soon. We have never seen so much litter on the beach, and wonder why you put up with it. We saw many families and young people tent camping on the beach with no bathroom anywhere close, I guess they were using the bathroom in the surf and in the sand. We purchased a beach sticker for $10 which I thought was a good idea only to find it was dated 2008. I started looking at the cars on the beach and found few had a sticker. It seems to me that if you wanted your businesses to thrive you might consider improving the conditions of your biggest draw the beach. (John Kangerga)

  1. I have found this new passion to help clear our beach. I intend to reach as many as I can to help spread the word that leaving trash behind is not “cool”, and it hurts the environment.
Cleaning up after a trip to the beach takes minutes and potentially saves the life of a seagull, or sea turtle, dolphin, etc…
I believe this behavior is not malicious, rather, I see at as thoughtless… or carelessness, and all it takes is a little more conscious thought, and it starts to go away…
The city of Crystal Beach has put a lot of effort into making trash receptacles easy to reach, and spends a great deal of money to help Keep the Coast Clear, but this does not prevent people from leaving and not cleaning up behind them. It is these people we need to reach.
Everyone Ive spoken to regarding this issue receives it well, and agrees that a problem exists. But figuring out how to put an end to it is the challenge. I believe the first and best way to head this off, is to continue to discuss it openly, and then secondly, publicly set an example. A little beach clean up is contagious, and when people see others cleaning, the lights come on…
Thank you for taking the time to read this…
Keepin it Coastal! Check out the events page for our one mile cleanup on the 13th @ 9:00am

If these campers were in the Gilchrist area, there are NO trash cans except for the few at the Roll Over area. I have complained about this, but I was told that there is not enough man power to empty the trash cans.

We are a tent camping family and I can assure you we take care of the beach. Not only do we have a personal portable potty, but we are always picking up blown trash. When we leave, its always left in clean condition. Yes, some people are just “trashy”, and its up to us to keep it picked up. I get mad over someone else left trash, but we do pick it up.

The 2008 parking stickers are good for all of 2012 as the County is using the old stickers THIS year to save printing. I should have saved my origional 2008 stickers! LOL! Hopefully the campers went to one of the port-a-pottys, they are scattered along the beach in high traffic areas.
