Cruella and her puppies

(Feb-21-2012) I really can’t remember a year when the parade weather wasn’t terribly uncomfortable. This year, again, we waited for the “all clear” to proceed over to the line up for the parade. Actually, this was our first year to be in the parade and we decided on Cruella, Pongo and Perdita, with the dalmatian ears sewn and ready for weeks. We got up early to decorate the golf cart, only to find out the parade had been postponed until 12:30pm. Whew, it was raining buckets! Then, as we watched the radar and no signs of clearing, we saw another delay until 2:30pm. Finally, the rain stopped and the skies began to lighten. We headed down the highway on the shoulder to Avocet to meet up with the rest of the parade so we could sit with the mosquitos for 30 minutes before they let us advance out onto Hwy. 87. Oh the excitement as we reached the crowds – throngs of people! We ran out of beads and koozies before we reached Island Liquor, but no one seemed to mind. In fact, people began throwing us beads. The kids were so excited to see Cruella and the dalmatians…what a thrill to see their little faces! People thanked us for coming out, but oh my goodness, thank you ALL for coming out! Drizzling rain? No matter. Happy Mardi Gras Ya’ll, see you next year!

GO’s Sand Bucket is only one beach bum’s journal of life at the beach, probably something each of you can relate to. Please feel free to email me with your thoughts, visions and/or feelings of just exactly what the beach means to you.
