Boy Oh Boy! Those Eagles sure know how to throw a rip-roaring party! Friday night was their Crazy Hats Party to kick off Mardi Gras. We were invited along with a few other couples to sit at one of the Eagle’s member’s table. We debated whether to wear a Crazy Hat. I was going to wear my Cat-in-the-Hat red & white striped hat. My husband could have worn his Marley Rasta hat with the long braids. At the last minute we both decided NOPE, not gonna do it. Happy we did!
But, we were asked to judge the Crazy Hats Contest. Oh, what a hoot! There were 60 entries! Crazy things! Many of the contestants made their hats, and they were pretty ingenious. There was a hat that played a video, one hat served shots, others had liquor bottles or beer cans attached. The scoring was obvious, if someone took the initiative to create a masterpiece or actually put out the effort to find a store-bought hat, they deserved to score a 3 or 5 or even a 7 out of 10!
The King & Queen from The Lighthouse Krewe held Court. Many past Kings & Queens were present and ALL had a wonderful time. I asked Queen Penny why she didn’t enter the contest? She told me very matter-of-factly, “I would have won hands down!” And, she probably would have!

The judging was difficult, but we were all pleased with the outcome. Pictured below are the winners. None other than Anne Willis, who was the first Queen of the Lighthouse Krewe. Very fitting and appropriate that Queen Anne was chosen and honored for this occasion.

Everyone made it to the Mardi Gras parade Saturday morning. The Lighthouse Krewe Float was amazing. Kudos to The Lighthouse Krewe for putting together a fantastic parade, the biggest ever!
