On Friday, in a 3-1 vote, Galveston County Commissioners approved a new precinct map that redraws the boundaries in each of four precincts. Based on the 2020 Census, changes in population obligated the county to draw new precinct lines. State law requires roughly equal-sized precincts by population. Two proposed maps were released to the public two weeks ago. One map made minimal changes to precinct lines that mostly maintained the status quo. The second, the one approved Friday, makes extensive change.
Voting FOR: County Judge Mark Henry, Pct.1 Commissioners Darrell Apffel, Pct.2 Commissioner Joe Giusti
Voting AGAINST: Pct.3 Commissioner Stephen Holmes
NOT PRESENT: Pct.4 Commissioner Ken Clark
