“Come Hell or High Water,” said Jackie Sticker, “the cooking must go on!” The threat and warning of flooding and heavy storms didn’t keep these chefs away from the heat. The Driftwood 4th Annual Charity Chili Cookoff was rocking with tunes, and smoke was rising with a sweet aroma from the eleven competing teams. First Place Chili was awarded to Cat 5, Second Place to The Hideout, and Third Place to Holiday Beach. The Kids’ Choice and People’s Choice Awards also going to Holiday Beach. And as winner, Cat 5 selected the Crystal Beach Volunteer Fire Department to be recipient of the $2,300 raised at the event.
THANKS to sponsors Republic Services and Landry Insurance, judges Michelle Byrd, Billy Shipp, and Barry Terrell, Kid’s judges Alexis and Lauren Gassen, and all the volunteers, a fun day was had by everyone, and full chili bellies helped to warm the wet days ahead. Congrats go to Logan Aless Gibson, the high bidder for the paddleboard…she needed it to paddle back home in the high tides.

On behalf of the Driftwood HOA, a huge Thank You to Jackie and Brian for another successful cookoff. It just would not have happened without their hard work and determination. What looked like a weather diseaster for such an event, turned out to be a wonderful success. Thanks also to all the sponsors, participants and judges for their part.
