The East TX Chapter of the Coastal Conservation Association (CCA) held their Fall fishing tournament at the Stingaree Marina & Bait Camp on Saturday, October 20, 2012. A total of nineteen (19) individual entries participated by fishing for three species of sport fish, which were Speckled Trout, Flounder, and Redfish.
The top three weights of each fish division would win the event and were awarded Chronarch Fishing Reels, Waterloos, and Shimano Saros Fishing Rods.
A cool but warming morning met the tournament anglers as they scattered to the SE winds to fish their techniques over their chosen structure. Most would stick to the grassy salt marshes, but some ran the jetties, mid-bay structure, and reefs to find their fish.
One such angler, Thomas Massa of League City TX, worked Berkley Gulps in a salt marsh area to catch the Flounder of the day, a 21 inch/4.08 lb Doormat that ended up taking first place for his angling efforts.

“This tournament is just a friendly, get-together type event” stated CCA weigh-in master, Jim Norman, further explaining that “it’s just a fun way to spend a day fishing in a friendly atmosphere. We’ll meet again in the Spring for another of our tournament events.”
CCA is the mainstay of our coastal fishery, working hard to support the many projects necessary to maintain a healthy environment for our outdoor resources.
