Update: There are not many changes as far as bay fishing. This can be a tough time with the extended heat and fresh water runoff . However, the surf is the place to be right now for all the action! Reds, trout, and sharks are all active as long as the water clarity stays acceptable.
Captain Bryan’s Fishing Report, 8-16-22
Right now the late summer pattern has set in for East Bay. Most of the action in the bay will be under the birds with lots of sand trout and smaller specks in the mix. Some of the reefs like Frenchy’s and Deep reef can have some larger fish for an early morning bite. The gas wells in East and Trinity bay will hold fish as usual when winds permit. On Bolivar, most of the best fishing action will be in the surf. When the winds are favorable for a calm surf, fishing is excellent there for specks, whiting, reds, and sharks. Topwaters early then gold spoons are working best for specks. Contact Miss Nancy’s Bait camp for up to date daily surf fishing info. This week the dreaded southwest winds start back a few days which can blow out the surf and all of East Bay. The best bet if that starts are areas around Texas City Dike and into Galveston West Bay. The jetties will remain good along the protected side.
I am currently running fishing charters on Lake Conroe. The water temps are running in the low 90’s so fish there are a little bit sluggish with the crappie and bass action slowed during the day. Catfish are moving but I can usually put together a good box of keepers after going through a lot of throw backs. The next few weeks, I will mainly be running Hybrid trips. They are running in schools on flats from 17-22 ft deep. They can offer non stop action after locating a school. Most of our Hybrids are caught on MT Pockets Spoons. MT Pockets website also offers quality jig heads, weights and other tackle for salt water too. I also offer catfish, bass and combination trips. Can’t wait for this fall! Fishing is outstanding here already so fall has more surprises in store!
I am offering specials on different trips now for my current and past saltwater clients. Text for more info.
I have moved my boat to Lake Conroe and am offering guided charters there now for channel catfish, crappie, largemouth bass, and hybrids. Lots of fun and catching!
I will continue with updated report content from myself and several other contributors for East Bay and for other areas of the bay system.
