After many cancellations due to inclement weather, family and friends gathered for a glittering birthday soiree hosted by legendary party givers Dr. Melanie and Mack Wallace. The celebration was in honor of CB resident Linda C Elissalde who turned 80 on February 14, 2021. The magical Wallace Touch was in evidence by enchanting outdoor decor. Honoree and other guests arrived via autos or truck at the Wallace manse.
Linda, adorned in red ensemble and escorted by husband Dr. Marcel Elissalde, stopped to pose on the red carpet as she greeted her admirers. Mobile phones kept busy snapping pictures and videos as Linda approached her director’s chair. She thanked the gathering, reminded all that she remained humble and never forgot, “The Little People”. The Wallaces provided decorative socially distanced tables and chairs for everyone. Most of the guests had received 2 covid vaccinations. Many still donned masks for the event.
Reverend Valerie Hudson, pastor of three area United Methodist Churches, and representatives of the Bolivar Peninsula, Sherry and Bob Morgan, drove by to present special cards to Linda. Writer Sherry composed an elegiac poem for the occasion. These were deposited in a Melanie Mail Box creation. Diane Lewis dropped in to bring a birthday offering. Well known locals Mary Ellen Smith and George Strong added their natural elegance to the evening. Douglas and Betty Wind provided international patina by driving all the way from San Miguel Allende, Mexico. However, the piece de resistance was the surprise arrival of Byron and Karen Kelly from Huntsville, Texas.
World famous engineer Mack and multi-talented consort Melanie based their party theme on a Hollywood/Broadway combination because of Linda’s Way Off Broadway Ensemble productions. All of those assembled had participated in one or more and brought each to a successful conclusion.
Everyone filled up on movie confections and then roasted hot dogs or sausages over Mack’s signature blazing fire pit. (Linda had expressed a love of movie fare and roasted wieners.) She received copious quantities of gifts to unwrap later in the Elissaldes’ Sunshine Cottage domicile.
As Linda left she thanked all for her magnificent evening. Linda turned toward party goers and whispered Norma Desmond’s famous line, “Mr. DeMille, I am ready for my close-up”.

(Author’s Note: Many years ago there were 2 Hollywood columnists who wrote about famous stars. One was Louella Parsons and the other was Hedda Hopper. They were rivals, and used sort of smarmy language. I have written a satirical article by Heada Cobbler. It is about the wonderful birthday party give for me by Dr. Melanie and Mack Wallace. Written in the style of a gossip columnist.)
