Basic Plus…

(May-22-2012) I hope you enjoyed last week’s column and I love hearing from you so please make sure you keep your comments coming. My goal is to help Bolivar to continue its forward trend on being the beautiful retreat we are all looking for. I hope to be an inspiration in making your home the best that it can be and to bring a smile to your face whenever you go in your front door. I enjoy looking at the homes going up each day and that brings a big smile to my face.

This room is a soothing mix of colors. Natural wall color and white furniture is a background for any color you love. In using a sea inspired color as an accent brings the colors of the painting into the overall room design. Planning a room can start with a favorite painting or a fabric as your basic color scheme. A surprise pop of orange accent or the yellow in the painting will make your room a bit livelier. Be Brave! This is your home, feel good about it!

On my “HOW TO” segment, I will show you how to make a statement with your existing candlesticks or flea market finds. In nature you will never find two things exactly alike. The eye travels to different heights and to use your candlesticks to their best advantage mix and match works very well. Also, to make your tablescapes look more natural or any floral arrangements you design use an odd number of pieces: 1,3,5,7 etc. It is more pleasing to the eye. To create this treasure, use E6000 glue or a high-heat glue gun to adhere your prized seashells on the top of your candlestick. For larger specialty shells or coral, once again you can find them at Murdocks in Galveston or our local shell shop, Shells and More in Gilchrist. (By the way I am NOT getting compensated for plugging them!) They just have the largest local supply for specialty shells. There are also some beautiful Shells on stands at our local decorating store, Tropical Accents. While I do enjoy using the internet I think it is important to support our local resources as often as possible. Below is a list of sites that will give you ideas and make your beach house the haven you always wanted.
