Armstrong Ace Fuels Romp in Sunday Scramble

The round started like many others for Will Armstrong, Charlie Brannan, and Mike VanZandt May 11th at the Ranch. Two quick pars and the team headed for the 125 yard Par 3 third hole, called the Road hole because it parallels Highway 87. VanZandt and Brannan had already missed the green with their tee shots when the 81 year old Armstrong set his ball on the tee. Armstrong, tired of being short with his fairway woods on the Road Hole, pulled his driver and gave a mighty swing. The ball started left, cleared the water hazard guarding the front left of the green and hit about twenty-five feet short. It bounced onto the green, rolled toward the flag, hit the flag stick and dropped into the hole for a memorable hole in one. The ace, Armstrong’s second at the Ranch, propelled the team to 5 under par 31, easily beating a lackluster field. The team of David Hoelzer, Dewey Jones, and Shannon O’Brien, who also witnessed Armstrong’s ace, finished a distant second at 2 under par. Congratulations Will.
